Nine-Time Prizewinning Mineral Hunters “Sitting on Goldmine” in Sweden

Examples of findings of Berthold Jonsson and Göran "George" Eliasson.

1st Prize at SGU Mineral Hunt

March 30, 2011

We all know the story of the legendary California Gold Rush of the 1800′s which resulted in unprecedented economic growth.   The discoveries of one man, James W. Marshall,  transformed his sleepy town into a booming center of commerce and all the world soon changed with it.

Well over a century and a half later, gold and other precious minerals are in as high demand as ever, if not moreso as the artificially inflated dollar threatens to collapse.  In the middle of it all, two amateur prospectors in the West-European region of Scandinavia have silently been making remarkable discoveries in their home country and slowly but surely gaining notice for their stunning consistency in various mineral competitions.  Their own sleepy small town of Edsbyn in central Sweden doesn’t get much notice either, except when it comes to the country’s national sport of bandy, which has already earned it the nickname of “Guldbyn”, winning the national championships several years in a row.

Berthold Jonsson and Göran Eliasson think the meaning of this name runs far deeper than is recognized. They have a passion for gold and minerals, and it shows.  They have been top placers in SGU‘s Mineraljakten or Mineral Hunt eight times over the past decade and have also won first prize in Norrlandsfonden 2006.  Altogether, they have over 20 years of experience in prospecting.

Keen instincts have led the pair to do more than just win competitions.  Today, the men have several claims which they say are rich in such high demand resources as gold, copper, zinc, platinum, diamonds, palladium and more. Diamond-core drilling and independent laboratory analysis has been performed confirming this by experts at three separate organizations:  Rio Tinto Ltd in Bristol, Ångström Laboratory, Uppsala University in Sweden, and GTK in Espoo, Finland.

Currently, Jonsson and Eliasson are interested in opening mining operations and have negotiated with a number of companies.   The two men say that despite the numbers and several meetings, they have not yet settled a contract.  The resources of most mining outfits being stretched thin in other areas, and a raft of personnel changes are the primary reasons.  For the one who has the fortune of getting ahead of the pack now, a new “gold rush” of the 21st century would seem to lay ahead.
